Nora & Her Family
in the Caymans
The toughest decision I made all day was what color nail
polish I wanted to see on my fingers and toes. Breakfast on
the terrace, the morning by the pool. Mom's caught a bit of
a cold, so we got her some lozenges. We'll see how it is
today. Lots of kids in the pool. It's fun to watch them
connect--the eyeballing, the drifting towards each other,
then the breakthrough. Chatter, chatter. I can stay under
for 20 minutes!!! I can swim all the way across by myself!!!
There's a wide step down platform on either side of the
pool I like to use here. It's a fine place to sit in a few
inches of water, dangling feet over the side, and read in
dappled shade. Lots of splashing going on as the kids show
each other their stuff. One daddy cautions his boy--you're
splashing the lady. I tell Daddy not to worry, boy is fine.
If I'm sitting in the pool, I should expect to get wet.
Stacie and I go get cleaned up and head over to the
salon. She picked purple glitter polish for her toes and a
deep candy pink for her fingers. I go with what's called
mistletoe for all digits. It's a pale green base with green
and blue and silver glitter. Fun stuff. Definitely I'm on
vacation polish.
The pedicure is heaven. Massage chairs. Feet soaked in
hot bubbly water. Terrific foot rub. Both techs are from
England, and one has only been here for three weeks.
Oh, we did a little shopping first. I got my mother a
Cayman Island cover up like the one I bought myself the
other day. Long tank with pockets. Found BW a bathing suit.
Then I saw these weird little pipes, carved with a naked
island woman. Very silly and stylized. Bought two. Stacie
gave me an odd smile, but I just laughed.
The guys have gone for an exploration drive. Mom comes
over to the terrace, and eventually Stacie comes by, too.
We're just toying with ordering some food without the men
when they show up. They drove around the island a bit, which
is reported flat, flat, flat. Went to the other side with
its rock beaches and blow holes. Had a beer.
I give BW his bathing suit, and one of the pipes. Why, he
asks, have I bought him a pot pipe? LOL. It's a pot pipe?
This is confirmed when I show the boys. Stacie had
recognized it as same, but was a little shy of pointing it
out to me.
I am most certainly out of the pot pipe loop. Still,
it'll make an interesting knickknack.
We opt for room service and private terrace dining. This
way we can just relax, watch the sun set and linger. The
nights are so beautifully balmy, and very quiet on our beach
front.
Today's big plans include some golf for Dan, a Sunfish
rental for BW. Taking my mother to church this evening, with
dinner following at the Grand Old House, one of the island's
landmarks.
