Nora in Australia
August 24 ...
A fine day yesterday. Got a long, wonderful
facial. Steam, open nasal passages. Briefly anyway.
Did some shopping for souvies with Bruce and
Isabel. BW and I bought bush hats. Why? They were
there. You can smoosh them in in your suitcase.
I couldn't find those beach bootie things everyone
warns you to wear but I'd seen them in the hotel
shop. So when we got back here, we separated and I
went off to buy my booties. Poked into the jewelry
shop in the lobby. Came out with a fabulous opal
tennis bracelet. Isabel calls this the shopping
crescendo. LOL. She's right.
We went to dinner at this place called Going
Bananas. Very bizarre. Sort of Bali meets
Hollywood. I don't know how to describe it. I sat
on this padded bench under a big draping of white.
I could have ruled from there. Lots of greenery.
The Stevie Wonder hair was much in evidence. Lots
of palms and ferns and red lights. We had about
twenty waiters all in all. Whoever came up to take
an order was never the one who brought it. Many
young people scurrying around. As we're waiting for
our drinks a very large bearded man who looked a
bit like a pirate came up beside me, held out this
culled strawberry and said Open Up. You had to
obey. It was wine soaked and lovely. He lumber by
from time to time and make comments or just look
narrowly to see if we were eating.
Food was great. I had some seafood deal and Is got
the champagne bugs. Bugs are big here and look like
giant mutant crawfish.
We're heading out to the reef this morning. I don't
think I can do more than paddle around on the
surface. No diving down with my ears this clogged,
but it should be very cool anyway.
