Nora in Australia
This one date 8-16:
MK, thanks so much for touching base on the
boards.
No time here for playing right now. Is (in case you
don't know Isabel is Nora's long time editor and
Miss Super mucky-muck at Silhouette.... and of
course Steve is her husband.) and Steven are here
at the conference, and that's really nice. Great
group, good food, but hectic schedule. I actually
have about an hour off now and wanted to try to
catch up on the mail a bit. Don't think I'll manage
the boards yet though.
There are French Fries in Aussie, and they are
good! LOL
I am enjoying the conference. You can't help it.
The women are delightful and so sweet.
Relax, Elaine? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!
God the sky here is so blue, cloudless. The colors
very vivid. I will relax when I get to Cairns.

I could really learn to love this group. They're
incredibly supportive of each other. Due to the
size of the country and the areas of low population
so many of them have no one near them, no other
writers. They have what they call the Isolated
Writers' Program and form far flung groups. It's
very special here. They're fun ladies, more
American, I suppose, in attitudes than I might have
imagined while still being very different.
The banquet last night was small scale, but dressy.
The big evening. Cash bar all night, wine for the
tables, and two choices of appetizer and main
course which are served Aussie style. Every other
person gets every other dish. You can swap as you
like. LOL. The awards are for aspirings. They love
their aspirings here. First chapters, first kiss,
full ms. that sort of thing, and several are
sponsored by book stores. Really nice.
Loooooong speeches. LOL. Very casual and heart
felt.
Many smoke breaks as there was none allowed in the
banquet room, which shocked several of the ladies.
Smoking is done about everywhere here, another
reason I love this place. <g>
I faded early, came up and called my mother. Pop's
back in the hospital. This problem he's been having
turns out to be an enlarged prostrate which they'll
fix in what I'm told is a very simple laser surgery
Mon. Home Wed. And he's talking. This is very
exciting for my mother. They know admit he had
another stroke in the rehab. But he's come back
from it. Talking a bit, very alert again and has
regained the strength in his right side. So I'll
worry about the procedure, but can relax about the
other.
We're heading out to a wild animal park this
morning for a couple hours. Roos and koalas. Yay!
Then back to put on lady clothes and do my last two
workshops, then catch the plane for Melbourne.
Mostly organized, and BW will do the rest. Bless
his heart.
Gorgeous day again. I'm a bit tired but don't want
to sleep in and miss my roos.
Oh, and Is tells me I need to do a reader letter
for the Dutch for the Calhoun Women. Now. LOL.
Slave driver.
