Birmingham, Alabama
October 10, 2005
Extremely long day on the bd. Into Birmingham, about a two and a half hour drive, with a driver who was a little confused once we got over the Alabama border.
Books-A-Million day, starting with an afternoon signing. Nice store, with a staff that had it well together. Then it's off to a hotel with a day room where I'm met by some of the managers. This is their big annual manager's meeting. I have a couple hundred stock to sign first. I'm quick, apparently quick enough that one of the ladies decides to time me. LOL. It seems I sign 10-11 books a minute.
They have champagne for me and a cupcake. Cute. My wonderful agent also sent champagne, and I pop a bottle so we can all have a glass.
I have a couple hours down before I have to spruce up for the cocktail reception and dinner, where I am the guest speaker. I sort of stretch out on a excruciatingly uncomfortable couch because I don't want to fall asleep. Make a few calls, start watching reruns of Charmed.
ZZZZ.
Wake up, disoriented, panicked, and with about 20 minutes to pull it together. I'm just about there when Publicity Kristywho's with me on this legcomes down, and ready to go when The BAM contingent arrives to take me downstairs.
Start sucking up Diet Coke to engage brain. We're on Central time here in Birmingham, and I'm feeling even that hour's difference.
The BAM people are just great. Happy to have me there, friendly, fun. Ballroom is prettily decorated, and I'm seated with some of the honchos. Lots of chat, lots of stories, then it's time to do my thing.
Good audience who laughs when they're supposed to. I do a Q&A after, and am amazedand say sowhen I get the when is Eve going to have a baby question from one of this group. LOL.
Sign books after, back up to the day room to get my stuffand my key doesn't work. BAM girl goes all the way down for a fresh one. Back down to the car and the drive back to Atlanta.
Tired, tired, tired when we arrive about 12:30 local time. In bed by one.
Feeling every hour of it today. Planned to work out this morning. Just don't see that happening.
