Whew! LONG day in Dayton. But gorgeous weather and a fun escort. Busy, busy.
Up early in Cincy to do a radio phoner, then sign 100 more bookplates--half way to my assignment of 400. Pack it up and move out. We're off to Dayton and our media there. My mind's already blurred that. I think we did a radio and TV--oh yeah, and a print. I have a day room at the Marriot there, and we meet the reporter in the lobby. Nearly missed each other as we're sitting on opposite sides. Also several monster stock signings. I think each store had about 200 books. Running out of pens and refills. Must pick up more tomorrow.
Then we have a wonderful lunch in a lovely little French bistro.
I know we had stuff after that, but I'm at the point in the first week out where many brain cells have been fried. Oh yeah. I think nap, but there are messages re the bookplates, so I have to sign the other 200 so they can be whisked off by Publicity Heather and sent to Fort Wayne. No nap-time for Nora.
Onto Books and Co, which I love. Such a wonderful store run by wonderful people. We have a great crowd, and the event goes for about three hours.
Mix up with the car company for the drive to Indy. The supervisor read the time wrong, so we have about a 30 minute wait while that's being fixed. Long drive, and due to poor directions from the hotel, a little drive around downtown when we arrive at about midnight.
I'm so tired when we get in. Have to make myself get out tomorrow's clothes and hang them so, hopefully, no ironing will be required. I want a DP out of the mini bar, but they forgot to get me a key. I'm so punchy my first instinct is not to simply call the desk and request one, but to try to pick the stupid lock with the can opener. LOL.
Didn't work. One was sent up.
Up at 6:50 am--the latest I could risk. Found myself going back and forth for stuff as the brain's mushy. But I got myself together and met Publicity Heather and our escort for morning TV.
I'm a little concerned when I discovered the team from this morning show has flagged all the sex scenes and has been doing dramatic skits on them during the show. The book, I announce, is NOT about sex. However, it all turns out fine, and much fun. I'm asked if I get that sort of thing a lot, and my response is: Just mostly from you media types. I think it must be because you don't get any sex, so you're obsessed with it.
Lots of laughs, then just a fun, silly five minute interview where everyone was in good spirits. I'd do this show again in a heartbeat.
We catch some breakfast, thank the lord, then I have time to go back and organize my stuff I'd tossed all over the suite the night before. But not before a quick trip to the adjoining mall. Nordstrom's means SHOES. I get three pair, and am happy. Then there happens to be The Children's Place. I find such terrific, adorable clothes for my baby. Heather is the devil, showing me this, that: Oh, this is so CUTE! I've got a big shopping bag full of outfits. Too cute for words.
Do a stock signing there, back to freshen up. Onto next TV where it seems the whole station is a fan. Obviously, I enjoyed that. Another stock signing, and back to the hotel for a phoner for a Raleigh newspaper. I have until 4:00, so I'm going to try to read some e-mail, recharge, and head out for four more stock signings and tonight's event.
Sunday, and my day off, can't come soon enough.
