Do you have any children?

What will Kayla call you and BW?
"Nana and Grandda."

Do you have any dogs?
"Four. Steinbeck (7ish, part yellow lab, part Sharpei, all neruotic), Sweeney (pound puppy, about 10, mixed up with some cocker), Tough Guy (17, mixed up stray we've had since puppyhood, with some spitz in him), and Martha (black lab mix stray, about 5 and the only girl and biggest of the herd)."

What's your sign?
"Libra ... October 10th"

What did you want to be when you grew up?
"When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a star. Any kind would do. This seems like a good, open-ended goal with multiple possibilities."

Do you drink coffee?
"Actually, I don't drink coffee. So what's sitting next to my keyboard when my fingers are flying - or when I'm staring at the screen like a zombie - is a glass of Diet Pepsi. Which is also breakfast. Just not a morning eater."

Favorite candy?
"... depends on the mood. Chocolate is never, never wrong, and I find a good Hersehy's Big Block - no nuts - good as gold. Especially if it's chilled in the fridge. But sometimes I want something chewy. I'm a huge fan of Mason Dots.  Very tough to find, so they're a nice little treat for me when I do.

Favorite fruit?
I really like fresh summer fruit. I like peaches and plums and grapes. And I like everything just underripe. BW calls them my hard-as-a-rock peaches. Actually, I think the only fruits I don't like are pears, bananas and melons."

How do you like your pizza?
"I like my pizza minus toppings, but won't turn my nose up at some pepperoni."

Red wine or white?
"I prefer white wine, and have become a fan of pinot griggio recently. Used to prefer French, and still like a glass of Poully Fuisse, but lean toward the Italians these days."

What stresses you out?
"... emergency dental appointments. Packing. Too many interruptions - which means more than, say, one in a work day."

Favorite flu remedy?
"My favorite remedy for the flu is being unconscious until it's gone."

Afraid of bugs or anything?
"I don't like spiders, snakes or sharks - all the scary S things. But sharks are the scariest. They sort of lurk under there with those dead black eyes, just waiting for a snack. I know it."

Any favorite kind of jewelry?
"Earrings. I love earrings. Pierced. Multi in left ear. Bought two gorgeous pair in Denver at an antique jewelry store. Pretty little gold drops, circa 1930, and a fabulous pair of new diamond -- a nice brilliant cut on a thin diamond wire. Pretty, pretty."

Favorite gem?
"I love stones. Don't know as I have a favorite. I have a fondness for emeralds, but then there's sapphires - and always diamonds. And the semi-precious are so pretty."

Do you have a tattoo?
"Yes. A Celtic knot on the inside of my left ankle."

Favorite flower or color?
"I don't really have a favorite color or flowers. IMO, life should be full of both, and in great variety."

What do you wear while working?
"Sweats of some sort are the most usual attire in the office area of the Fortress of Solitude. That is, when pajamas aren't the daily attire."

How fast can you type?
"Well, let's see. In high school, back when they still used typewriters, I did 80 words a minute. After 23 years of writing, and using a keyboard, I imagine I'm well over that. So I'll just say ... I type like the wind."

Do you work at a desk?
"I don't have a desk so much as I have a long, long counter-type workstation. Don't put my feet up on it because it's usually covered with papers and research books.

Do you plan ahead?
"... not a long-range goal person. Short-range is more my style. Get this done, then move to the next."

Do you read your books?
"I don't read my books after publication. I'd always want to change something - and you know, too late."

How many rooms in your house?
" ... pretty sure there are 17."
