"I'm a sucker for Christmas movies. Just love them. But my favorite has to be 'It's A Wonderful Life.'  Zu-Zu's petals."

Do you have Christmas traditions?
"Around here, it's tradition to open one gift Christmas Eve. The rest waits for Christmas morning. Actually, afternoon now that the kids are grown up. There's Christmas breakfast at my mother's first."

So, if there hadn't been that infamous snow storm in [1979], or if, say, Jason and Dan had been good boys and played quietly with their toys instead of driving you to the notebook, what would I be reading right now?
"Hmm, without that snowstorm and the boys, there would be such a void in the     publishing world it doesn't bear thinking about. You might be forced to read toothpaste tubes or bubble gum wrappers. But I feel some other natural disaster would have stepped in and fixed everything.  Just the way it should be."

Have you ever had your family's plaid/coat of arms traced and drawn?
"My parents did indeed research the family plaids and coat of arms on the Scottish side. There's a terrific photo of them at a banquet in Scotland with my mother in her fancy white blouse and long plaid skirt and my pop in full kilt regalia."

Who do you prefer, the Ravens or the Redskins?
"Well, I'm very cautious in the sun, so I usually avoid red skin. But I do like birds. Also 'The Raven' is one of my favorite poems."






Can you tell me how to giftwrap a baby's laugh?
"Ottis, no wrapping will hold one. That's why everyone gets a little piece of the whole."
