Hmmmm ... no one e-mailed me
suggestions for doing the R.O.A.R.K.E. Award ... or
even nominees ... so I guess it's up to me again!
<VBG>
For various reasons, one person
keeps coming to mind whenever I think of this
issue's R.O.A.R.K.E. Award. It isn't because of
something she has done for Nora or for any of the
BB/Ns ... but because of what she has done for her
family.
For those of you not on AOL, it
is challenging to describe the sense of family we
have created at a board called Sanctuary (at
keyword TBR). We are able to enter this board and
laugh and cry and joke and tease and lean on one
another and share the good with the bad with the
ugly.
One BB/N has undergone her share
of trials & tribulations within her family
during the past six months. First, they moved to a
new state. That takes adjusting. Then, they find
out that their son had to undergo surgery and would
be in a body cast for several months. Just as he
has the body cast removed, she finds out that one
of her daughters has to come home from college
because she is sick (nothing too serious).
Through it all, she has
maintained her remarkable sense of humor ... yeah,
she leans on us a lot ... but you know what? We're
not called Board Broads for nothing! We have BROAD
shoulders to lean on, and it takes a wise person, a
strong person, to be willing to do that leaning. To
seek out help. To seek out love &
support.
But the main reason that I have
nominated Martha (aka Greekkook) as the winner of
the ADWOFF R.O.A.R.K.E. Award is because she
epitomizes being what a mom is all about. Nora
writes strong mother characters in her stories, and
I think that Martha shows a lot of the qualities
that Nora embraces. She has compassion and humor.
She is open and understanding. She is generous ...
gives her time ... and shows by example that her
children come first.
Martha has been leaning on the
BB/Ns a lot over the past couple of months, but you
know what? That's what we're all about. We are a
family. And as a family, we want to be able to
share the good, the bad, and the ugly!
<g>
On a personal note, it would
have been extremely easy for me to have nominated
my buddy, my boss, Jaci, as ADWOFF's R.O.A.R.K.E.
award winner. Over the past couple of months, she
has done more for me than anyone could ever know.
Jaci, I know that I tease you a lot ... hell, your
Nora's favorite blonde! <g> I want to
publically say, "Thanks, for all you've done for
me." In my heart, you deserve an honorary
R.O.A.R.K.E. Thanks. <g>
