Summer & Fall '99
edition

You'd
think that during the lazy, hazy daze of summer
that The Phantom would take a break, but NOOO! You
crazy Nora fans have The Phantom doing double time.
Here are the latest awards:
The
combined Trust Me, This Won't Hurt A Bit
Award goes to Monica and Laurie for
bringing their friends Christina and Kathy to the
madness at TTP 3. These Nora virgins win the
Good Sport Award for putting
up with all the rowdies they met.
KatieD won the ADWOFF Sales
Agent Award for passing out ADWOFF's Web
address at TTP3 and the RWA meeting in
Chicago.
Miryam (RBrewer) gets the
Hook One, Get Several Free
Award for hooking her friend on the In
Death & MacGregor books and then her friend got
a job as a bookseller, where she can spread the
word of Nora. Some other friends get the
It Pays To Do Research
Award for deciding to write a story for
Miryam for her birthday, reading the Born In series
as research, and falling for Nora in the
process.
The
I Feel Pretty Award is given to
Phyllis L (PhylL9226) for talking 2 ladies into
trying some of Nora's books while she was getting
her haircut for TTP3.
Elaine (Eschmook) is the proud
owner of the Anything For A Friend
Award for bringing a list from a
co-worker of Nora books to buy and also dragging
some library books to TTP3 to be signed.
Edith
(ApleHeart) receives the All's Well
That Ends Well Award for finding
out that someone in the hospital listened to the
Nora tape and got hooked, even tho Edith wasn't
able to enjoy it as promised during
surgery..
The
Go Granny Go Award goes to
Mary's (MHF13) grandmother for pushing Nora's books
to people she meets at Target. You taught her well,
Mary!
NancyD (ND4Oldies) gets the
Great Gardener
Award for planting the seed of reading
in a student and finding out years later that Nora
is one of her former student's favorite authors.
Now if she'd only stop chasing that lawn boy around
…
Anyone who went back to college
this fall should study Lisa's (Mirage2002)
techniques on educating roommates about Nora's
writing. Homeport and
Conspiracy In Death were included
in the course.
The
If At First You Don't Succeed
Award is for the fan whose screen name
is DallasEve. She spent the whole summer trying to
convince her mom she should try the J.D. Robb
books, without success. This fall there was a
breakthrough and now Mom's just as hooked as the
rest of us.
Lynda
(MiladyJane) wins the award for Do What I Say,
Not What I Do for convincing several ladies at
various locations to read Jewels of the
Sun, even tho she hadn't read it
herself yet. Umm, Lynda, I think we have to have a
talk about your priorities.
The
final award is the combined Loyalty and
Civil Disobedience Award which goes
out to Lynda, Tracey, Elaine, Phyllis, Sue, the
Nancys and many others too numerous to mention. The
Phantom is proud of all of you who let readers know
why they shouldn't read a particular author's
reprints and went so far as to rearrange shelves,
dumps or take Notorious books out of UBS's so they
wouldn't fall into the hands of unenlightened
readers. Some people just shouldn't profit from
past misdeeds.
Now
the Holiday season is upon us. As loyal Phantom
Phans we should remember that any of Nora's books
make great presents and a great way to get others
to join us in Nora's world.
