Have you ever fallen in love with a gambler?
Have you ever felt like the name of the game that
you are playing is some elusive game called love?
The first time that I saw him, I remember
catching my breath. There was something about him
... dark hair curling over the back of a work
shirt. His laser eyes seemed to stare through me.
He had this aura of power flowing through him, so
much that I could feel his personality leap out and
grab me, ensnare me. It was not just the beauty of
his face, though that hit me from the beginning. It
was the fact his eyes never left me.
It was wonderful, horrible, frightening to fall
in love with this man. I thought that I was cold
inside. He made me recognize my warmth. I thought
he belonged to another. That issue got resolved
rapidly, much to my embarrassment. His mere touch
elicited a fire through me, flutters in my stomach,
and caused me to just melt.
Throughout our courtship, we both had a love
affairs with opposing athletic champions. He tried
to hide his love from me, as if I could not see it.
His strong, self-assured being turned into a
marshmallow in the presence of the horses we both
had never thought to be an integral part of our
souls.
He challenges me, protects me, infuriates me. He
can make me uneasy, thrill me, or make me laugh.
The gamut of emotions that this man of mine puts me
through is like the spinning of the roulette wheel:
fast, wild and reckless. Just remember, never bet
against the house.
If you have never fallen in love with a gambler,
try reading about mine, Gabriel Slater, owner of
the horse farm Longshot. You can find out more
about him, and myself, in True Betrayals.
