An Ode to Bookie

Note from a First-Timer ||| Bookie

I’m thrilled to the bone

And I simply must share

I’m bursting with news!

<sigh> Oh you probably don’t care...

Only a few weeks from now

In a quaint little town

I’ll be meeting my idol

She of glamour renowned

See, I’ve heard she’ll be coming <g>

To some booksigning ado

Apparently Nora Roberts (and anybody's who's anbody)

Will be around there too.

But the real draw for me

The reason I really must go

Is to see Bookie Von Broad,

The true star of any show!

I mean, what style

What talent, what grace

Oh, to be a witness

To that glamour, face-to-face

I’m quite overwrought

With this anticipation

I’ve been stalk--er, following Miss Bookie

From station to station

I’ve always just missed her

Or, she’s been just out of my reach

But this time I’m determined

To get up the courage to speak.

You see, I’m so bashful

And almost painfully shy

I usually just watch

As excitement passes me by.

Of course I read Queen Nora

(I mean, who doesn’t, if you’re sane?)

I’ve collected almost all her books

Only a few still remain.

But she’s so down-to-Earth

No limos or fanfare

Why she asks only a diet cola

If you have one to spare

Whereas, Bookie, has an entourage

For Heaven’s own sake

Thousands--mainly men(!)--

Crawl in her wake!

Oh for a drop

Of Bookie’s spirit so bold

To emulate her pattern,

Is my one true goal.

So, I’ll see you all there

Although you probably won’t see me

I’ll be musing and composing

My Ode to Bookie...

Sincerely,

Shyla T. Midd
