In Our Humble Opinions:

Our Impressions of Nora Roberts

"... word artist, painting her characters with vitality and verve." ---Los Angeles Daily News

Yes, we know that about Nora Roberts. She definitely is an artist---with the keyboard as her palette, her monitor as the canvas.

"Nora Roberts's gift ... is her ability to pull the reader into the lives of her characters---we live, love, anguish, and triumph with them." ---Rendezvous

Yes, we know that, too, about Nora. Oh, how we know that! We sit down, innocently, yet knowing better, to start a story of hers. One chapter or maybe two, is what we think. And then, before we know it, one chapter becomes ten, two becomes twenty ...

... Dinner? "Not tonight honey." Mom, I got a detention in Holt's class today. "Oh, that's sweet, Julie." The coffee boils over, the cats and dogs go hungry, night meets morning. Oh yeah, we know how well Nora pulls us into the lives of her characters.

"The incomparable Nora Roberts once again delivers ... tense, compelling and riveting." ---Romantic Times

Again, we don't need anyone to tell us that about Nora. There's no need for a "money back guarantee if not satisfied" when reading one of her stories. No need to throw it back and look for a bigger fish in the vast pond of writers. No, we know that when we pick up a book written by Nora that we're going to be treated to a keeper, a trophy.

As one constant reader said, "At least I have my hubby well trained :) He takes one look at the spine of the book to see which author I am reading, and depending on the name, he makes his own dinner, or plays fetch and carry for me while I explore a different life. When NR appears, he just goes away. <g>" ---Susan (aka Mmmmmh) on AOL

We know all of this about Nora and her writing, and more, simply because she graciously invites us into her world, okay, cyber-world, via AOL almost every single day. We know that Nora is more than a "word artist ..." more than "incomparable ..." more than gifted. We know her not only as a writer, but also as a wife and mother, and yes, as a friend.

We know about her dear husband (dh) Bruce Wilder (BW). All 6'7" and 205 pounds of him. We know that he was invited into her bedroom before she even knew a lot about him! How do we know? Because she tells us.

"Yeah, I suppose it was romantic, the way we met," explains Nora. "Hiring him was the smartest move I ever made.

"He's a carpenter and I wanted my bedroom---believe that?---remodeled. He did a great job, so I kept him."

Although Bruce knew that Nora was a writer---they had some mutual friends and he knew her ex-husband slightly---they had never met until she hired him. At the time, Nora was divorced, a single parent, and had decided that she wanted her bedroom remodeled. Her neighbor recommended Bruce for the job.

"No, my son doesn't have a third ear. Did I say that? I meant he had two noses." ---Nora Roberts on AOL.

It is easy to see through her posts that her pride and joy are her two sons, Dan and Jason. Dan (aka SumBum23) is 24 and works at TTP; Jason is 21 and is going to college at the University of Maryland. He is majoring in the theater.

An Irish-Catholic, Nora comes from a family of four older brothers. Her parents, whom she had dedicated many of her stories to, have been married for over sixty years.

Nora amazes us, astounds us, not only by being able to create these fabulous stories to escape into, but also by giving so much of her time to us. She patiently responds to every post---sometimes answering the same question for the tenth time---because she intuitively knows that it is the first time for that particular person.

"Shannon, Diet Pepsi and M and M's. There is no better meal." ---Nora on AOL.

Wow! we think. She's just like us! And better yet, by inviting us into her life every day, we are allowed to live vicariously through her.

Do we really need so-called critics to tell us if Nora's stories are any good or not? No. All we have to do is go to the boards on AOL each and every day. The true critic will tell you all you need to know about Nora Roberts's (aka J.D. Robb) stories. Her fans.

"Nora Roberts is a wonderful writer. I just recently purchased Montana Sky in hard back, I couldn't wait for paper back. When I see her name, I pick up the book. Sometimes I realize that I have already read it when I get home. I just [read] it again. I always enjoy her work." ---GKing66100 on AOL.

"Tucker is a wonderful hero. I'm in love ..." ---GCasti6984 on AOL.

"Everyone has their favorite I'm sure. But Hidden Riches and all the Born In books are true winners! Romance, suspense, murders, intrigue... wonderful stuff! Enjoy!" ---Fran (aka Fran 317) on AOL.

"[I] am totally hooked on anything written by you or your alter ego! The only problem is, you don't write fast enough." ---Dawnya (aka DawnyaH) on AOL.

"Ms. Roberts, If you happen to read this, I'm sure I'm among many that are addicted to your books. I've read many other authors, but none grab me and keep me the way your books do." ---Becky (aka KBellaLuna) on AOL.

"Every time I find one of your [books] that I haven't read, I feel like I have hit the jackpot." ---Stacie (aka Sssladi) on AOL.

"Keep up the great writing, they are the best books I've ever read. Thanks for keeping me so entertained all these years, and I eagerly look forward to each new book!" ---Erika (aka E L Gerber) on AOL.

"Thank you for bringing me numerous hours of reading pleasure. Keep writing ..." ---Neen73 on AOL.

"I am getting really bad about picking up a book in the evening and not putting it down until [4 AM], and still be at work around 8. Getting lost in your character's world is better than sleep anyday." ---Simgrl on AOL.

"It was so nice to visit a world where there were no piles of dishes, no genetic diseases, no temper tamtrums. I can always melt into your books and become the heroine for the hours I read them. Thank you :-)" ---Janice (aka MamaKRB) on AOL.

"Eve and Roarke are such rich, fascinating people, with so many layers, it is wonderful to be able to go back into their world time after time. Thank you for all the world you give us!" ---Betty (aka BetICanDo) on AOL.

"Nora, I finished Sanctuary last night! It was SSSSOOOOOOOOOOO GGGOOOOOODDD!" ---Barb (aka RShar6181) on AOL.

"... and Oh My Gosh ... when Eve and Roarke moved in this weekend, I knew sleep is out of the question this week! ...

I have always enjoyed your writing (talent, humor, and characters) Very much ... but ... all I can say is Naked was riviting! The waitress at dinner even had to ask my what I was reading! (she finally stopped asking if I wanted more ice tea and just kept refilling it - took her too long to get my attention!) ..." ---Debby (aka SnowBearDM) on AOL.

"Nora, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for giving us wonderful stories, wonderful characters ... to escape into ... <sigh> they are a great break from life's realities!" ---Sue (aka SueCBDR) on AOL.

We sincerely hope that you have enjoyed

the first issue of A Day Without French Fries ...

It is just a very small way for fans of Nora's

to say, "Thanks!" and to be able to

gather together and build friendships.
