I'm sure by 2059, there will be alternate sources of power used routinely. Solar, batteries, but still, a major electrical outage is going to screw things up good and proper. Wouldn't that be fun?

Only three classic movies? Mmm, tough. To Have and Have Not, The Philadelphia Story, Notorious.

Those were very much top of the head choices. So many jewels to pick from.

It's been a while since I've seen The Great Pumpkin special. Before too much longer, I'll be able to enjoy it with Kayla.

Traditionally, BW and I go to Takashamya in NY, and I pick out something in their jewelry department for him to give me for my birthday. This works really well for both of us.

Some of my favorite words and expressions aren't appropriate for a public board where young, impressionable children might surf. Otherwise, I really don't have any--they're all favorites for me.

Wild cows? What, you've never seen a stampede in a TV western? Those cows can get pretty wild, running around, busting up stuff. You know they stand there, looking placid, like butter wouldn't melt, but they're only just waiting for an excuse to stampede and tear the place up.

I like suede just fine. I have a wonderful old, and pretty battered now, suede jacket I wear to death in the fall and early spring.

Sexiest older man--have to go with Sean Connery. Not only does the man look amazing, but that voice. Mmmm, that voice.

I don't let my nails get too long. They take a beating every day, and tend to break at stress points if I don't keep them at moderate length. Right now they look really good. My French manicure from the spa's really holding up. Too bad it won't hold out for the signing, but I think that's too much to ask.

It looks like an evil, smiling doll holding its hands out so it can grip me by the throat and squeeze until I turn purple and die, and then it'll eat me with those sharp little teeth. Wonder what that says about me.

That was some deal I did years back where I wrote the opening, then whoever was in charge of the site judged the entries for the next part, and posted that, and so on until the end. Pretty awful experience, really, and one I wouldn't repeat. After my opening, the next scene had the heroine in a tub, pleasuring herself as she thought of the hero. Can you say ICK!

Obviously, Dalmations have spots because they couldn't quite pull of polka dots. This was close, though. They're such clowns.

I love paraffin treatments. In fact, one of my faves at my spa is a full body paraffin job. It's wonderful.

Good morning, Nora! I'm trying to figure out my list of Christmas presents to give, and I'm stumped on my mom. Long story short, she's had a shitty year, and I want to give her something special, something that says, I love you and you're the best mom ever. Not necessarily expensive, but really meaningful. What's one thing you'd love to get from your boys?

Mornin' Nora,

When my brother was in the 9th grade (years ago), english class, talking about prepositions, the teacher told them to think of where a mouse could go. He asked a question that the teacher never answered. Instead she sent him to the principal's office because she thought he was refering to sex.

So I'll ask you...Can a mouse go 'without'?

Hiya Nora!

So I thought I'd ask you if other Sesame Street muppets—such as the Cookie Monster :nance: , The Count or even Big Bird (Snuffy's best friend)—have unusual first names that we are unaware of? :queen_nora: !

If your dh called you in the middle of the day and your kids were screaming and you couldn't hear him and finally you yell really loudly "EVERYBODY BE QUIET...YOU ARE MAKING ME NUTS!!!" and then you find out he had you on speaker phone and...AND...had his coworkers sitting in his office (all of whom are now laughing uproariously),well...how would you make him pay for that??

The handy thing is moms pretty much love anything given to them by one of their kids. However, it never hurts to try to tailor the gift. What does she especially like? Does she collect or have a particular hobby? Is there something she'd love to have but won't buy for herself? Add a smaltzy card, maybe some flowers if you want to make a special punch, and you've done the job.

Of course you can be whelmed. I'm whelmed most of the time. It's a nice, easy place to be, while over or under can be stressful or annoying. Most of us go through our days in a state of whelm, whether we realize it or not.

Obviously, that teacher had a gutter brain. A mouse can go without many things. Cheese, for instance, or common sense. Often going without common sense, then go without the mousehole to get the cheese they've been going without, and look what usually happens. A damn mess for all involved, if you ask me.

I thought Cookie Monster's first name was Montigue. Montigue C. Monster. If it's not, it ought to be.

Although all writing is risky, I've never found any of the process risque. Nothing much risque about sitting on one's bum all day, with that bum usually covered with pajamas.

Perhaps your husband and his co-workers would enjoy a day with the kids at the office. You could threaten to campaign for a take all your screaming kids to work day, and give your spouse a day of peace and quiet.

Hi Nora -

I read somewhere that Holy Grail is more popular in the US, while Life of Brian is more popular in Europe, so that made me wonder: Which Monty Python movie do you like better - The Holy Grail or Life of Brian?

Nora,

It looks as if I will make the signing on Sat-looking foward to it since I missed the big July gala. I was wondering what weather they are calling for in western Md on Sat. Will it be Ottis T-shirt weather or sweatshirt weather or something in between? Just as long as it doesn't rain!!!

I'm just back from the Va Blue Ridge and during 1 24 hour period I started out and ended up the day with a sweatshirt but during the midday I had to change to a t-shirt. What ever it is I'm sure everyone will have a great day on Sat. 36 hours and counting.

Nora, color me sentimental, but I had a customer the other day tell me that she always spends her birthday (or a day near her birthday) with her best friend--a woman she considers her soul sister.

With the upcoming release of The Official Nora Roberts Companion, we have stories from three women I bet you consider your soul sisters: Ruthiebabe, MK, and Pat.

Please turn the table on them and share at least one favorite memory (each--cuz I'm greedy!) of Ruthiebabe, MK, and Pat.

I'll probably catch some post-season play, though I won't be all jazzed up about it since the O's are out. But you gotta love Oct baseball.

I think since they named Isabel after my former Silhouette editor and good pal, it's only right I get a hurricane, too.

Courtesy of our Mel here at ADWOFF, I have the Nora Roberts screen saver. Very cool.

We're big Holy Grail fans in this house. What? The CURTAINS? We want . . . a shrubbery. It's a flesh wound. What's . . . your favorite color. We can go on endlessly.

Weather here looks like sunny (thank God) for Sat, starting out pretty cool and getting up into the mid to high 60's.

Hard to edit down stories to either fit here, or to tailor for public consumption. One of my favorites of Ruth's is seeing her come stumbling out of the bathroom of a suite a bunch of us were sharing at a conference, yanking up her pantyhouse and yelling: Bomb, there's a bomb in the bathroom. I heard it go hsssst. Everyone's just sitting there, calmly watching her fighting with her pantyhouse, carrying on. Because she'd forgotten we'd had a party the night before and had tried to recork a bottle of champagne--which we'd put under the bathroom counter so the cork wouldn't fly if it popped. Releasing champagne cork goes hsssst. Ruthie's always good for a laugh, often at her own expense.

One of my faves involving both MK and Pat is the two of them surprising me on my birthday by showing up at my house in the middle of the day with a cake and champagne. There I am, working away in my grubbies, and there are pals at the door with cake and bubbly.

Pretty much now I do a little business when I travel to Europe--trying to deal with it on arrival, if possible, so I can devote the rest of the time to vacating. But it's always interesting to do media over there, and to meet my publishers.

Hi Ya Nora,

Since we are looking through old SQ questions for the ARC contest... I came across a response of yours and have to ask...

First the Quote "The nursing staff at the hospital caught on quickly. They were great about it, careful not to bombard. I promised them books, and delivered, and several of them brought their own in after asking Stacie if it was okay. Took a couple of pictures on my visit yesterday. One of the nurses said: This is my once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I grinned, shot a look at Stacie, and said: Hey, I better be back here in a couple of years ."

Did you have a Premonition? (sp)

Congrats on the one on the way...

Nora, I have a problem. I am down to my last nerve and totally out of sorts. The Sort Store is closed, because the owner retired (which I think is downright uncooperative of him) and my Nerves for the Plucked catalog doesn't arrive until next week. What to do?

Hi Ms. Nora,

Just watched the movie The Time Machine (1960). At the end H.G. Wells took three books from his time to the distant future to help them to start over.

So, My SQ is What three books would you take to the distant future?

Thanks,
